Ellis Wines Contemporary & Traditional Wines

Ellis Wines

Ellis of Richmond was founded in 1822 by family members of the current owners and has built an enviable reputation within the industry for the high quality of its wines and a level of service unrivalled by its peers.

Originally based in the City of London, the company moved to Richmond at the beginning of the 1900′s and established a successful chain of wine shops across London and the south of England.
We have discovered over many years the high standards that are expected of a wine merchant, and today our portfolio contains a full selection of wines you would epect from a premier importer. This comprehensive range includes over 1000 wines and is sourced directly from nearly 200 different producers, many of whom are family estates and have been our suppliers for years.

HT White

HT White is a family owned Wine Merchant and wholesaler of Beers, Spirits and soft drinks. They have been established since 1820 and are still run by descendants of Henry Tom White who originally imported wines in oak barrels and bottled them himself back in the early 1800’s.

HT White prides itself in offering an outstanding range of quality products with an exceptional level of service and support.

Harveys Sussex Brewers

Harveys of Lewes

Harveys of Lewes is the oldest independent brewery in Sussex and is still in the Harvey family after eight generations. The history of brewing at Harveys dates back over 200 years and the impressive Victorian Gothic tower is a Lewes landmark which has been adapted over the past 150 years to house a modern brewing plant whilst still producing beer made in the traditional way.
Harveys is still very much a local brewery – our beers are distributed within around a 50 mile radius and we pursue a policy of local sustainability. Our hops come from Sussex, Kent and Surrey and the ‘Spent Hops’ find their way back to the land as fertiliser. Harveys ‘Spent Grains’ are fed to the dairy herd at nearby Plumpton Agricultural College.
Spring water for brewing is drawn via an artesian well 60 feet below our premises. This and our yeast strain, used for half a century, combine to produce a range of beers encompassing every style from Porter to Light Milds.
Our flagship Sussex Best Bitter evolved in the post war period and is Harveys most popular and recognisable ale. It has recently been voted Champion Best Bitter of Britain for two consecutive years. At the 2012 International Beer Challenge, Harveys ales scooped 3 Golds, 3 Silvers and 2 Bronzes in this highly regarded annual event. At the 2010 World Beer Awards our Old Ale was voted the World’s Best Mild; the Christmas Ale voted Europe’s Best Barley Wine and Europe’s Best Strong Stout was awarded to our Imperial Extra Double Stout.
Our Head Brewer, Miles Jenner, was voted Brewer of the Year 2009 by the British Guild of Beer Writers.

David Catt & Sons

David Catt

The Wholesale business started 40 years ago back in 1974; when we grew a crop of onions that were making very little money on the open market. We took the decision to pack them into small bags and off we went to sell them to the local pubs and shops. We sold 40 tons that winter and have not looked back since!

That was the start… we now serve to over 150 of the best pubs, restaurants, greengrocers, farm shops in Kent, Surrey and Sussex.

Our specialty is locally sourced and grown produce; we grow a number of products on the farm that we supply to our customers such as Asparagus, Broad Beans, Coriander and Mint are favourites. The Business is a family run affair with a partnership between David Snr, David Jnr and Michael; with David Jnr’s wife Maggie who runs the office. The next generation of the Catt Family have now joined the business, with Phil and James now looking to expand our range of products that we supply. We all work on the Farm as well as the Wholesale side and growing fine produce is still very much at the heart of the business.
